We publish two editions of this text: the Vidyadhara’s original translation, which we use as liturgy in our practice, and the Translation Committee’s more literal translation, useful in one’s study of the practice. Pointing Out the Dharmakaya is a mahamudra practice text by Karmapa Wangchuk Dorje, often used in the three-year retreat curriculum. It is the shortest and most pithy of the three texts composed by the ninth Karmapa, the longest being the text taught by Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, Ocean of True Meaning. We have included two excellent seminars by Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, in which he provides complete instruction for the practice of mahamudra vipashyana.

Primordial Purity & Pure Appearance are two published volumes from a collection of talks given to tantrikas in 1987 by H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Boulder, Colorado. Completely retranslated from the spoken Tibetan and lightly edited, these teachings are very inspiring and immediately useful in one’s practice. Pure Appearance, now in a second revised edition (2002), includes a discussion of the four abhishekas, the three samadhis, the six bardos, development stage practice (utpattikrama), and the four binding forces. Highly recommended.
